With the return of the Premier League and fans back in the stadium for the first time in over a year, football fever is back in the air. There’s more to footballers than just football, they are often trendsetters too. Footballers are role models for young adults, and that means everything about their life gets scrutinised, including their luxury accessories.
A luxury watch is often one of the first expensive items that footballers splash their cash on. Not only does a nice watch show status, but it also shows individual style and personal taste. So, we’re here to break down the wrist candy of some of the most famous football players in the world.
Which footballer has the most expensive watch?
In the watch world, it’s pretty well-known that the most expensive Rolex watch belongs to Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo. The watch he owns is the Rolex GMT Master Ice and is worth around £371,000. It’s one of the most expensive Rolex watches ever made and it is extremely rare. The reason it’s so expensive is that it is made out of some of the finest materials, like 18ct white gold and 30 Carats of carefully cut diamonds.
Rolex and Omega are among the favourites
Each footballer has their own individual taste, and this is certainly shown through the jewellery they wear on their wrist. Designer watch brands like Rolex and Omega tend to be a popular choice for sporting stars, but let’s have a look at some of the favourite luxury watches of our favourite football players.
Paulo Dybala – Rolex Daytona 116595 RBOW
Dybala’s Rolex is certainly a talking point, especially when he turned up to, no other than a Lamborghini factory sporting a unique wristwatch. This watch is no ordinary Rolex. He owns the Rolex Daytona 116595 RBOW, which features a rainbow sapphire bezel and diamond-set lugs and crown guards. The watch retails for around £220,000 and is extremely rare to find. Dybala’s watch is aimed at a younger audience, but if you do manage to get your hands on this luxury watch, then it’s hard to miss as the Rolex Daytona 116595 RBOW certainly works as a strong statement piece.
Cristiano Ronaldo – Rolex Daytona Chronograph
Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the most influential footballers there has ever been. He has a whopping 336 million followers on Instagram, making him the most followed person on the app. His influence is huge, which means that everything about Ronaldo is scrutinised, including his watches. As a new billionaire, we’re sure that Ronaldo has more than one watch, in fact, he has a collection of high-end watches. Ronaldo is particularly fond of buying one-of-a-kind pieces, take the Rolex GMT Master Ice as an example. A watch which is covered entirely with diamonds, and is the most expensive new Rolex an individual can buy. Saying that Ronaldo has two Rolex Daytona Chronographs and has been seen wearing them throughout his entire career. One of his Daytona Chronograph watches is steel with a black dial, and the other is gold with mother-of-pearl and diamond dial – both the same watch but in very different styles.
Lionel Messi’s Rolex Yacht-Master
Ever since Messi has been at Barcelona he’s always stuck with the same couple of watches. Now, since his departure from the club he’s called home for so many years, it’s not only his club that he’s decided to change. When Messi won his first title at Barcelona in 2005, he bought an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and was often seen with this timepiece on his wrist. More recently, Messi has been spotted with a Jacob & Co watch, in his native country colours of white and blue. However, he’s clearly decided that it’s time for a change. A photo of Messi greeting fans at the airport, shortly after signing for his new club, Paris St-Germain has surfaced and the watch on his wrist was noticeably different – a Rolex Yacht-Master. Messi’s choice in watches is perplexing, he didn’t opt for the Daytona model nor the sporty Submariner. The Yacht-Master is a practical choice though as it’s got a rubber strap and carefully crafted dial which is unlikely to ever wear or age. Messi’s new watch signifies the end of an era, but also the start of an era, where the Rolex Yacht-Master gets the recognition it deserves.
Neymar – GaGà Milano
Neymar doesn’t just wear this brand, he also is an ambassador for the brand too. Neymar has a capsule collection with GaGà Milano, the watches even have this signature engraved onto the back of the dial case. Within the collection there are three different models; Skeleton, Diamonds and Chrono – all models are slightly different but share similarities, like their striking black strap. Neymar’s collection is all set with diamonds and has his logo on the second hand. He’s been frequently spotted wearing his collection.
Footballers have a collection of luxury watches
Although they may only wear one watch at a time, that doesn’t stop footballers from buying an entire collection of luxury timepieces. There are a few big brands of watches that footballers tend to be drawn towards. They include; Rolex, Patek Philippe, Jacob & Co, and Audemars Piguet.
Some of us will probably never end up playing professional football in our lifetime, however, you can get your hands on one of the luxury watches your favourite sports star owns.
